You’ve heard the talk, now walk the walk!

Many of our members said how much they enjoyed the talk by Alexander Hunt in January about Potash Farm and their orchard of Kent Cobnuts.

I’m delighted, therefore, to offer our members a wonderful morning out at Potash Farm to see the cobnut trees for yourselves!

This fantastic morning’s trip is a chance to

  • Explore not only the Kentish cobnut plantation
  • Be guided on a walk through the historic village of St Mary’s Platt
  • Learn about this ancient village, its beautiful church, its historic buildings and its connections to famous residents
  • Even visit the hidden delights of Kent’s first edible forest garden including a sand quarry and a smuggler’s cave

The plan for the day is to meet at 10.30 by the post box at the church (where there is plenty of safe parking), walk through the village with Alexander and explore then plantation at Potash Farm. Then, we’ll return to the House at Potash Farm for refreshments in the garden, with time to visit the shop, before visiting the edible forest garden.

You won’t even walk away empty handed, as Alexander has promised a small bag of Cob nuts for everyone who comes on the walk!

For those who want to, we’ll then wander back through the village to the traditional pub – The Blue Anchor, which serves good food and real ale and cider, for a great way to end the trip.

The cost of this trip is just £15 for members and £22.50 for non-members, and for those of you wanting to enjoy lunch, we’ve negotiated a special 2-course deal with the Blue Anchor of £12.95 for a home-made main course and a desert.

Book your tickets in the normal way – logging in if you’re a member to get your discounted price. If you want to also have lunch, please do book that ticket too. Closer to the time, we’ll send out a menu so that we can order the food in advance, as the pub has requested (I can’t send out the menu just yet, as it’s seasonal and will have changed by then).

Note: We need to have a record of numbers for the pub booking. Therefore, please do book and pay for a lunch place if you’d like to join us for lunch. Should you later decide to eat something other than our fixed-price special menu, you can deduct the amount paid from the price of your own meal.
