Like many folk, I’m  very keen on alternative therapies to pills for many problems so I’m excited to have Richard coming to talk to us on Friday February 16th

.

Richard Claxton has been a GP in Tonbridge for the past 21 years. He is convinced that the health of both individuals and society as a whole is enhanced by connectivity with the natural world. He campaigns for the provision of Nature-based Therapies in healthcare settings.

Richard created the web-based directory of Therapy Gardens:www.gardening4health.co.uk. He is also a Garden Designer specialising in gardens for healthcare settings, a volunteer guide for the Delos Garden at Sissinghurst, and a Trustee of Greenfingers Charity, which funds and builds gardens for Children’s Hospices.

In addition to General Practice, Richard has worked in Psychology, as a Paediatrician, in Medical Politics and Commissioning and in Medical Education. His most recent project is leading on a new NHS-staffed Therapy Garden in Tonbridge.

He’ll be discussing the relationship between Gardening and health, and discussing how Green Therapies can become a key part of our healthcare system.

This promises to be a really great talk.  As usual it’s at Burwash Common Pavilion.        Following requests from some of you we’re going to start the talk a bit earlier, at  715 with the hall closing 830.  (I’m very aware this won’t suit everyone so please let me know your opinion!)    Hall itself will be open from 645 so you can get drinks and snacks before the talk,   It’s all free to SFTG members including snacks tea and coffee..just bring a card or cash for the full bar.  Please book so we can get the food and chairs right.   Free to SFTG members and £3.00 to non members.
